UNLV basketball coach, Lon Kruger, to serve as grand marshal
The Henderson Heritage Parade & Festival, a celebration of the city’s 57-year history, rich traditions and community spirit, will be held on Saturday, April 17 from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. at the Henderson Events Plaza, located at 200 S. Water Street, in the Water Street District. The event will include a mayor & council breakfast, parade, festival and car show. Admission is free.
“Henderson has grown into a great community,” said Andrea Primo, Director of the Cultural Arts & Tourism Department. “It’s that time of year to come together to celebrate how far we’ve come over the years, acknowledging our roots and transformation.”
Kicking off the celebrations will be the mayor & council breakfast at 8 a.m. in front of the Henderson Convention Center, located at 200 S. Water Street, followed by the parade down Water Street, from Ocean Avenue to Victory Road, at 10 a.m. Lon Kruger, UNLV men’s basketball head coach, will serve as this year’s parade grand marshal.
Marching bands, floats and youth groups will be decorated to the theme of “Futuristic Henderson – Decade of Destiny.” Entries will be judged in four different categories including Best Float, Best Costume, Best Group and Best Marching Band for a chance to win over $2,000 in prizes.
Other activities include a festival featuring delicious world cuisine, hours of live entertainment, craft and cooking demonstrations, courtesy of the International Food & Folklife Association, from 11 a.m.-7 p.m., as well as a classic car show on Water Street, from Basic Street to Atlantic Avenue, from 12 p.m.-5 p.m. Trophies and awards will be given to car show participants in several different categories.
